Canonical Sacrament Records

Maintaining precise sacramental records is a fundamental duty of the parish. Kononia provides a digital registry for documenting and archiving canonical milestones, including Baptism, Chrismation, Marriage, and Funerals.

1. Supported Sacraments

The module supports tracking the full sacramental lifecycle of a parishioner:

  • Baptism: Logs birth details, baptism date, officiating priest, and registered sponsors (godparents).
  • Chrismation (Confirmation): Documents confirmation details, date of oil anointing, and spiritual witness records.
  • Marriage: Logs wedding dates, officiating clergy, spouses, canonical witnesses, and optional parish linking references.
  • Funeral (Departed): Tracks date of departure, funeral prayers date, location, and officiating priest.

2. Key Record Requirements

To ensure records comply with canonical standards, each entry includes specific witnesses and details:

  • Clergy Reference: Every sacrament requires selecting an officiating priest from your clergy roster.
  • Godparents & Sponsors: Links sponsor names directly to their profile cards in the directory, creating a complete spiritual network.
  • Location Detail: Log whether the sacrament occurred at the main sanctuary, a campus branch, or an external location (such as a hospital or home).

3. Permanency & Soft-Deletion

Due to the canonical importance of these registry books:

  • Archive Permanency: Hard deletion of sacrament records is restricted.
  • Soft-Deletion Protection: If an entry was made in error, authorized administrators can “remove” it, which hides the record from public lists but preserves the historical audit trail in the backend database for compliance.
