Enabling Web Push & In-App Notifications

Stay connected with your parish by enabling real-time alerts. Kononia uses standard in-app notification logs and browser web push notifications to keep you updated on upcoming events, volunteer shifts, and parish news.

1. How Notifications Work

  • In-App Notification Feed: Clicking the bell icon on the top navigation bar displays a chronological list of updates. Unread items are marked with a badge, and older read alerts are automatically archived after a set period.
  • Web Push Notifications: Receive alerts directly on your computer or mobile device even when your browser is closed or the Kononia app is in the background.

2. Managing Your Notification Preferences

You can customize which alerts you receive by navigating to Profile > Settings > Notifications:

  • Events & Registration: Toggle alerts for newly published events, registration confirmations, or waitlist updates.
  • Announcements: Receive notifications when new posts are published by local leaders or the diocese.
  • Pastoral Care: For servants and priests, toggle notifications for assigned visitation cases or follow-up reminders.
  • Admin Alerts: System alerts regarding role changes or billing settings.

3. How to Enable Web Push on Your Device

To start receiving alerts on your phone or desktop:

  1. Open the Kononia app on your device.
  2. Go to your Profile Settings and click Enable Push Notifications.
  3. When your browser prompts you with “Allow Kononia to send notifications,” click Allow.
  4. You can disable alerts at any time by revoking permission in your browser’s site settings.
  5. If you change devices or log out, old subscriptions are pruned automatically to protect your privacy.
